first KEY POINT
There are a lot of myths and conclusions about the mind of an abusive man, often formed in an attempt to justify vile behavior patterns. These assumptions are dangerously inaccurate because they make the abuser seem like the victim.
The abusive man is always in control; contrary to one of the many assumptions, he knowingly puts his partner through hell. His actions aren’t a reflection of some deep insecurity; he isn’t trying to fill a void from his childhood. It’s simply a fixation with control, and he’ll enforce it with relentless abuse and manipulation. The mind of an abuser isn’t as complex as the “professionals” make it seem; there are no excuses. And if you stick around trying to change him, you’ll only expose yourself to more hurt and abuse. It’s a common mistake to think that the abuser will stop and change if he realizes his actions are wrong.
The truth is, the only feelings that should matter are those of the abused. The abuser already doesn’t see anything wrong with his actions and will continue to harm until someone can make him see how his actions make them feel. Only when he sees how much damage he is causing can he begin to make an effort to change. This summary will uncover how and why mental abuse in relationships can leave an even deeper scarring than physical violence and how to break out of it or help others do it.
second KEY POINT
What is abuse? To abuse is to treat another human being with cruelty or violence regularly and repeatedly. It is a habit of mistreating others for no particular reason whatsoever. It isn’t a new trend amongst humans; it has been in our culture for a long time, either subtle or full-blown. Although respect for human rights has grown in the last few centuries, some forms of abuse stem from the unequal structure of our society to this day.
