Short summary
The world is burning from Australia to the Siberian Arctic, from the Amazon to California. The time is late, and the moment of consequence, so long delayed, is now upon us. Do we stand and watch the world burn, or do we decide to do what is necessary to achieve a different future? In this tidbit, you’ll understand the impact of climate change on the Earth and our responsibility as stewards of this habitat.
Christiana Figueres is a globally recognized leader in climate change. Tom Rivett-Carnac is a renowned leader in energy policy, climate change, and international diplomacy. They are founding partners at Global Optimism, an enterprise focused on social and environmental change.
“The future we must choose will demand us to pay more attention to our bond with nature.” ~ Christiana Figueres & Tom Rivett-Carnac

Millions of youths around the globe—inspired by Greta Thunberg, the adolescent girl who started a lone protest in front of the Swedish parliament—are engaging in protests to draw attention to climate change. But this shouldn’t surprise us. Since the 1930s, we have known about the possibility of climate change. In 1960 we became certain of it when geochemist Charles Keeling measured CO2 in the earth’s atmosphere and detected an annual rise. Since then, we have done little to stop climate change, leading to increased greenhouse gas emissions. We continue to focus on economic growth through the uncontrolled extraction and burning of fossil fuels, but this has a lethal impact on our oceans, rivers, forests, soil, and air. We have not succeeded in managing the very ecosystems that sustain us. Instead, we have unintentionally but decisively caused damage to them.
There are two extremes of people when it comes to climate change; some don’t believe in climate change, while others believe there is nothing that can be done about it.
Our carelessness has turned climate change from an existential problem to the extremely serious crisis it is now, as we speedily approach limits beyond which earth as we know it will cease to be. And yet, for a lot of people, these depredations are invisible. Despite the increasing recurrence and intensity of natural disasters, we have still not connected the relationship between the ongoing destruction of our earth and our ability to guarantee the safety of future generations, feed ourselves, live in coastlines, and uphold the integrity of our homes.
Whether you are okay about climate change or sad about it, this summary is an invitation for you to participate in deciding the future of humanity, confident that, despite the crisis, we have what it takes to collectively address climate change now.
Everyone who cares about the rightful future of their children and grandchildren should be concerned about climate change. ~ Christiana Figueres, Tom Rivett-Carnac
second key point
The geographical periods and their influence on the earth’s climate
Ice Ages—periods in which vast glaciers cover much of the northern continents—have slowly come and gone throughout the history of our planet. The last ice age lasted about 2.6 million years. The natural influences of carbon dioxide on the earth’s climate resulted in gradual warming, leading to the current Holocene epoch, which began approximately 12,000 years ago. This allowed the ecosystem to settle into a sweet spot of natural conditions conducive to human well-being and propagation. This environmental stability allowed the human species of about 10,000 people living in small tribes to start their life. People gradually became agricultural farmers and settlers and eventually developed cities supported by industry and machine manufacturing. As a result, humans thrived, and the population grew to the current 7.7, or so, billion.
"The Future We Choose: Surviving the Climate Crisis" is a compelling and urgent book that tackles the pressing issue of climate change. Written by two prominent environmental activists, it offers a hopeful yet realistic roadmap for a sustainable future. Drawing on their experience in international climate negotiations, the authors provide practical solutions and inspiring stories to empower individuals and communities to take action against the climate crisis and create a better world for future generations.
Who should read The Future We Choose
Climate activists and environmentalists seeking practical solutions for the climate crisis.
Policy makers and government officials interested in shaping climate policies.
Individuals concerned about the future of our planet and seeking guidance.

Headway is the answer! No longer accumulating books I never read. With Headway, I initially chose the areas important to me such as productivity, time management, etc., and each day I'm provided several book summaries from which I devote 20 minutes or more each day reading. All of this on my phone! My life has improved with Headway. Truly my most useful app.

In today’s world, we rarely have time. Between our jobs, our families are social obligations, when do we have time to grow and develop ourselves? Headway is an excellent app that gives you that time it gives you those little snippets of information that you need to direct your focus in on your life. Headway gives you a chance to find out the meat of a book that you might want to purchase and read or listen to in-depth without wasting a lot of time trying to figure out is this book for me? I highly recommend the app.

I've gotten multiple books out of the library with the intent to read them, but always have a hard time finding the time. This app has helped me finally be able to get to them. Summarized, yes, and thank goodness too! Just short enough I can finish one on my way picking kids up from school/practice, or while I'm cooking dinner. I can't wait to listen to them over the summer when we visit the beach!

It amazed me! There is the possibility to highlight the most important points of each book and instantly translate unfamiliar vocabulary. With the ability to review the searched words. It's a great way to learn more about English as well. The price is great.

I’m enjoying what I’m learning on headway.each summary comes with quotes at the end which you can save to help you remember key points. You can listen or read, I’ve found that reading puts me to sleep before I can finish but the listening feature keeps me engaged and I can finish in a brief amount of time if not one session.

Exactly what I need! I always have booklist to read, but can't committed enough to finish/start bc of too much pages. Headway is really helpful and concise with their summary. What I love the most is that the essence of the book is well crafted, so I don't only read the key points, but also there's the story and how personality of the author still well shown through the summary. Well done!
