first KEY POINT

Anxiety; its meaning, effects, and the cause for therapy

Anxiety is a condition that causes feelings of worry or fear, and these feelings can disrupt an individual’s normal life. There are a few types of anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety, selective mutism, and medication–induced anxiety disorder, and specific phobias, such as agoraphobia.

Many people struggle with mental health issues and don’t know which or how to fix them; it is important to create awareness for them.

Symptoms of anxiety include stress that’s out of proportion to the impact of an event and the inability to set aside worry and restlessness. Other prominent symptoms include:
• Nervousness.
• A sense of impending danger, panic, or doom.
• Increased heart rate.
• Hyperventilation.
• Sweating.
• Trembling.
• Feeling weak or tired.
• Trouble concentrating or thinking about anything other than the present worry.Anxiety is the body's natural response to stress; it’s a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. On the first day of school, going to a job interview, or giving a speech may cause most people to feel fearful and nervous.

If left unchecked, a lot of the stress we encounter in our day–to–day activities can deteriorate to worse conditions.

The following chapters explore the concept of anxiety, its causes, and treatment. Many people work under anxiety triggers unknowingly, and Dr. Duff has weighed in on this issue and provided much insight needed to detect, manage, and realistically avoid the condition.

second KEY POINT

Humanity has evolved beyond the need for anxiety as a defense mechanism; it has become a burden

Let’s go back, way back, to prehistoric times, caves, and clubs. You probably imagine Captain Caveman. Good. We’re back where anxiety was essential for survival — fending off rivals and fleeing giant predators. That extra boost of adrenaline you got when you had to protect your mate or avoid becoming a bear’s snack was all thanks to anxiety.Let us flash forward to the present, with elevators, final exams, and press conferences. Anxiety is now the enemy; when before it helped you perform better in moments of significant threat, now it cripples you and goes to sit in the corner biting its fingernails off — leaving you to face your problems alone.
