The employees at Blue Origin caught a first glimpse of the rocket dropping like a bomb at 25,000 feet. It was falling fast, but instead of panicking, they relaxed in the employees' lounge — excited to watch the booster fall towards Earth. The engineers, also employees, watched the rocket fall freely on a giant screen. Some had their hands over their mouths in fear.

The engine and thrust worked to lift the rocket off the launchpad at the test site, flying it faster than the speed of sound. When the engine was falling, it had an opposite effect: slowing the rocket down and preventing it from slamming into the ground and exploding.

The employees at Blue Origin jubilated wildly, hugging one another. Jeff Bezos had watched from the control room of his company's launch site as the rocket booster landed. According to him, it was one of the greatest moments of his life. Twenty-eight days later, a larger space rocket owned by Elon Musk also landed.

Elon Musk referred to the arrival of his rocket as a great moment that dramatically improved his confidence that a city on Mars is possible.

Fifty years after the advent of the Space Age, both Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk flew a rocket past the edge of space and landed it vertically.
