first KEY POINT
Growing up was difficult for Tiffany for many reasons. First, she was teased when she was in elementary and middle school because she smelled like onions and had flies all over her body. The flies came because of the moles on her face, and the onion smell was caused by the breakfast her mother made every morning. She had long hair and a wart on her forehead that made the other kids call her a “Dirty Ass Unicorn.”Tiffany attended El Camino Real High School, and it was way better than elementary and middle school. Other kids liked her funny nature, fashion sense, and wordplay. She became famous in school because of all the things she did to win over a boy named Audie. She stalked him and kept giving him Snickers and candy. Although Tiffany was in ninth grade, she could neither read nor write. So, she kept getting people to read things to her so she could write love letters to Audie and participate in class. She joined drama class and the teacher — Miss Gree — figured that she couldn’t read or write. Miss Gree took her aside and taught her the basics of reading and writing. Tiffany went on to do a monologue at the Shakespeare Festival and won first place.
Tiffany’s experiences fill the pages of this summary and show you how even the most successful people can have ugly experiences. Keep reading to find out how Tiffany changed her story and became “The Last Black Unicorn.”
second KEY POINT
In Tiffany’s tenth-grade year, she became the Conquistador, the Spanish soldier mascot of El Camino Real High School. Before then, nobody had tried out to be the mascot except her. People loved it, and her routine was fun. Tiffany was crowned the school's queen, with her name engraved on a plaque. She was getting paid $50 per game, in her senior year, to be the high school mascot. She had a boyfriend on the football team, and he was a grade under her. People called him the assistant mascot, and in her senior year, they broke up because he got tired. Tiffany was mad about everything and quit being a mascot to pursue other interests.Tiffany’s first paying entertainment job began when she became an “energy producer” at Bar Mitzvahs. An energy producer is also known as a “hype man.” She was responsible for getting the party started and making people excited. Eventually, she got into MCing and DJing, which she did for 11 years. Tiffany’s career as an energy producer began when she was at a school dance. She was dancing and a big circle formed around her. After the party, the DJ asked if she would like to dance at a Bar Mitzvah and get paid for it. His company’s name was “Enterprise Entertainment,” and his name was Tim, but everyone called him DJ Timbo. Tiffany started dancing for $40 per party, but after two years, she ended up becoming one of the MCs and started making about $200 a party.
