In high school, Mindy Kaling had fun learning Latin, watching movies with her girlfriends, experiencing long crushes on older guys who didn't know her, and hanging out with her family. In her early years, she was not a big star, mainly because she was often overlooked at school; hence, her achievements had nothing to do with her upbringing or popularity in high school.
No one fully realizes how little time they have to spend with family until everyone is grown and out of the house; it then becomes apparent that those first 18 years are not quite enough.
Kaling was never the lead in a play. She never went to a single party with alcohol at it, and no one offered her pot. It was when she was 16 years old that she learned marijuana and pot were the same things. She didn't even learn this from a friend; she gleaned it from a syndicated episode of the 2012 comedy 21 Jump Street. Her parents didn't let her do social things on weeknights because weeknights were for homework, and maybe an episode of The X-Files if she was a good kid (X-Files was on Friday night). On extremely rare occasions, she could watch Seinfeld (Thursday, a school night) if she had just aced her Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSATs) or something else. This bothered her, such that she always felt she was missing out because of the way the high school experience was portrayed on television and in song.

This summary is about romance, female friendships, unfair situations that now seem funny in retrospect, Hollywood, heartache, and Mindy Kaling's childhood. She tells the story of how an African kid bullied her, Broadway plays rejected her, and her experiences at work.
It shouldn't be socially acceptable for people to say they are bad with names. Not knowing people's names is a choice because you chose to not make it a priority. ~ Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling's experience in the hands of a Senegalese bully

Mindy Kaling has always been chubby—except the day she was born when she weighed 6 pounds. When she was in first grade, she weighed 68 pounds. She was 14 when she first attempted to lose weight and 19 when she tried again. At 14, she lost weight because of Daunte Diallo, a guy from Senegal. Diallo was a popular kid on the basketball team, loved by both teachers and students. But Diallo bullied Kaling verbally for being overweight. He made comments like, “You would actually be really pretty if you lost weight.” He later started calling her a whale, forcing her to focus on her diet.

Headway is the answer! No longer accumulating books I never read. With Headway, I initially chose the areas important to me such as productivity, time management, etc., and each day I'm provided several book summaries from which I devote 20 minutes or more each day reading. All of this on my phone! My life has improved with Headway. Truly my most useful app.

In today’s world, we rarely have time. Between our jobs, our families are social obligations, when do we have time to grow and develop ourselves? Headway is an excellent app that gives you that time it gives you those little snippets of information that you need to direct your focus in on your life. Headway gives you a chance to find out the meat of a book that you might want to purchase and read or listen to in-depth without wasting a lot of time trying to figure out is this book for me? I highly recommend the app.

I've gotten multiple books out of the library with the intent to read them, but always have a hard time finding the time. This app has helped me finally be able to get to them. Summarized, yes, and thank goodness too! Just short enough I can finish one on my way picking kids up from school/practice, or while I'm cooking dinner. I can't wait to listen to them over the summer when we visit the beach!

It amazed me! There is the possibility to highlight the most important points of each book and instantly translate unfamiliar vocabulary. With the ability to review the searched words. It's a great way to learn more about English as well. The price is great.

I’m enjoying what I’m learning on headway.each summary comes with quotes at the end which you can save to help you remember key points. You can listen or read, I’ve found that reading puts me to sleep before I can finish but the listening feature keeps me engaged and I can finish in a brief amount of time if not one session.

Exactly what I need! I always have booklist to read, but can't committed enough to finish/start bc of too much pages. Headway is really helpful and concise with their summary. What I love the most is that the essence of the book is well crafted, so I don't only read the key points, but also there's the story and how personality of the author still well shown through the summary. Well done!
