first KEY POINT
It is easier for people with the same cultural identity to exist with little or no conflict, than it is for those who still struggle to find their cultural identity. The high rate of crime in Black neighborhoods can be attributed to the problems associated with a lack of cultural identity. Many Black kids resort to violence because they have been caught in a vicious cycle that existed during slavery. The majority of Black men do not have father figures in their lives, which, in turn, affects their kids because there’s no one to copy from.Barack Obama was privileged to come from a family that valued education even though his father wasn’t around. Not many people have the same privilege, and the high number of out-of-school Black kids attest to that.
Barack Obama’s life is also an attestation to the importance of getting a good education. His path to the top became easy because he got a good education from reputable schools. He was able to learn more about history, which helped him trace his roots.
second KEY POINT
Barack Obama grew up without his father present in his life, and at the time of his father's death, Barack Obama Snr remained a myth to him. He had left Hawaii back in 1963 when Obama was only two years old, so, as a child, Obama only knew him through the stories that his mother and grandparents told him. His father, Barack Obama Snr, was an African, a Kenyan of the Luo tribe, born on the shores of Lake Victoria in a small, remote village called Alego. Obama’s grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, was a prominent farmer, an elder of the tribe, a medicine man with healing powers, so Obama Snr was well-cared for.A few months after his 21st birthday, a stranger called Barack Obama to give him the news about his father’s death. He was living in New York at the time, on 94th between East Harlem and Manhattan.
